Mr McDonald, chairman of the Northern Collieries’ Association, lias announced his 'refusal to negotiate further with the Miners’ Federation on the ground of the latter’s dillydallying, which had rendered conferees futile.

Trades Hall officials to-day declared every effort should he made to defeat any effort by Mr McDonald to carry out his threat and deal direct with the men, and expressed confidence that no miners would deal with the owners.
