THE MISTLETOE BOUGH.
(All Rights. Reserved.) ifOw often do you see the horse shoe hanging outside country cottages .with the ends pointing downwards ! The superstitious, of course, know better. They hang it up the other way so that it may catch and hold.-.any .“luck” that may be going. Still more common is it to see mistletoe hanging in the houses on Christmas Day. If we were really keeping up an old custom the berry would never be brought into our homes before January Ist. For its use is a survival of an old and very Druids of 'Stonehenge. Every New Year’s Day the priests distributed little sprigs of mistletoe to their followers .as a charm. It is an interesting fact that great quantities of mistletoe still come from areas in Wales which are known to have been haunts of the Druids in ancient tunes. . ' •'
