MR. CLAYTON'S CHANCES.
(To The Editor). Sir.—Kindly allow me through the columns of your paper to pass a few remarks re ‘Mr. L. Clayton and the election. It is most peculiar that Mr. 1.. Clayton, after being such a staunch supporter of the late Mix Massey, and the Reform Party ror so many years, should be so easily persuaded to turn round and support a party led by Sir Joseph Ward, whom iie was always so dead against. It is quite true when he says he has no personal ambition for Parliament. But the old hands of Gisborne kmow the ambition lie had years ago when tho sitting member was Mayor! Mr. Clayton and two or three ot his friends were councillors also, and they were always up against him, out nine times out of ten had to take back scats, and Mr. Clayton still carries some old isores. that is the ambition he has—to get Mr. Lysnar out no matter who m. * I think he has an idea he liaslio hope, himself and, if he takes a friendly tip. he will pull out and save himself expenses, and also those behind him. for he. will only finish 'up a bad third. Thanking you for your spare. —i am. vour-s, etc., IT. J. REED, . 2 Derhv Street.
