PRESENTATION TO CLUB U.I'XM BURS There whs a large} gathering of athletes and supporters of the Gisborne Athletic ( luh at the function to welcome the victorious ladies’ relay team which successfully retained the. E'taveneaux Cur> Wellington and ‘Wanganui last Saturday. The function, which was held in Findlay's reception room, was presided over by the president ot the dub, Mr H. FI Forster. In o|)eniitg the function, the chairman congratulated the girls on their win in the relay, and also Miss X. Wilson and Miss D. Dixey who had captured other events as well. __ The team which comprised Misses Norma Wilson (captain), J. Haisman, E. Benton and D. Dixey had worked wonderfully well together and it was mainly due to their team work that they had won the relay. He congratulated the team on their meritorious win, and also (Void tribute to the fine work of the coach, Mr W. flankey, and Mr Jenkins, manager of the team, who by their untiring efforts had made the success possible. Aj. a later stage Mr Forster said there were two ex-members of the club who should not bo forgotten for their work they had done iri making the dub the .success it was, and putting it on such a, sound footing. Firstly, there was Mr Owen Paltridge their former secretary. Baring his term of office Air Paltridge had been both coach anti starter, and the speaker thought that timing the nine years he had been associated with the dub, they had never had a better secretary. In replv, Mr Pali ridge thanked the president for his good wishes and foliations remarks, and wished the dub success and prosperity in the fit ture, Mr Paltridge concluded by congratulating the relay team on their win, and Miss Wilson on hpr fine performance in winning the 100 yard; and 50 yards scratch races. On behalf of Mr Mason. Mr .‘Parker thanked the club or their most- appropriate present and said all menilipfs knew thrj invaluable work Mi Mason had done for the club, ft was Mr Mason as chairman who had ibrought.the club up to the very high standard that now existed, and although he might not he able to taloan active part in tlie affairs, Air Mason, as a lover of sport, would lie sure to support, tlie club in any enterprise it undertook. Air Forster then presented Air Hnnkey with a silver eversharp pencil, on behalf of the relay team, oi which Mr Hnnkey was/ coach. The president stated the relay team’s win was partly due to the coaching and preparation given them hy the coach. The success of the, girls in Wellington, said Mr Hnnkey in reply, was due to two things, firstly, the excellent coaching they had received at Hie hands of Mr O'. F. Paltridge. who was roach of the team Inst season, and also to the girls themselves, who had eo-opernted in the best < f spirit. The speaker concluded hy -hanking the girls for' their present and congratulating them on their win. . s During, the course of the i veiling items were contributed bv Airs Thomson. Mrs E. Algie, Miss Rickard, and Messrs, Allan and Thomson, while several popular numbers were contributed bv Morrow’s orchestra, comprising- Mrs Algie (piano), Air J. Morrow (banjo), and Mr Morrow jnr. (violin). Ater the function dancing was ir. dnlged in, Morrow’s orclicstrij supplying the music.
