MISHAP TO KAITUNA

STRANDS IN TAURANGA HARBOR

FLOATS OFF AT HIGH TIDE

AUCKLAND, Oct. 13

Advice has been received that the Union Company’s steamer Kaituna, bound from Gisborne to Tauranga, went ashore at the entrance to Turanga. harbor between five arid six to-night. The tide had turned an hour be.fore and was coming in and it is hoped the vessel may float off at higli, tide. Captain Anderson, the Union (o. s wharf superintendent, left for Tauranga. by the Matangi to-night to investigate. Communication by wireless is impossible, owing to the Kaituna‘s wireless being out of order. If the vessel does not float out with the tide the Matangi will attempt to tow her off. Her exact position has not yet been definitely ascertained, but itis thought that she is on a steep beach of hard sand. Later. Word received from Tauranga states that the Kaituna, which was stranded on the middle bank at the entrance to the harbor, came off at high tide, shortly after 11 o’clock. She dees not appear to have suffered much damage.—P.A.
