THURSDAY EVENIN'G MEETING. RUNNING AND CYCLING SPECIAL PRIZES. On Thursday evening the Allies Cycle Club will hold a special evening meeting of running and cycling. The prizes are something special. The cycle race is a half-mile, and the first prize is a tea set valued at £5 ss, and the running race is' also a half-mile, first prize being a dinner set valued at £5 os. 'They are handsome prizes and should draw record fields. Already big entries have been received and still a few more new runners and cyclists are coming forward.

WATERSIDE!? WORKERS’ PIGNTC On Wednesday the 27th tlie waterside workers hold their annual picnic on the Patutahi Domain, and are running two professional cycle events—a one and two-mile event. The first and second prizes for the one mile are handsome trophies donated by Allan Sutton. The prizes for the two mile will be good cash prizes. It is to be hoped that all the cyclists will turn out in full force and ride at this picnic. The track is still in first-class order from the big meeting that was held there on New Year’s Day. Entries for these two events close with Allan Sutton this evening at 5 p.m., and full particulars re these events can be obtained from Mr G. Thomas, or Mr Allan Sutton. COMBINED FREEZERS’ PICNIC. PROFESSIONAL EVENTS. The Combined Freezers’ Unions are holding their annual picnic on Saturday next, dOth, at the Park racecourse. There are to be professional cycling and running events, and it is to be hoped that the Union will be well favored with big fields as the prizes are good and well worth competing for, and the athletes are assured of a good day’s outing.

GISBORNE BRANCH

A meeting of tlie G.A.A. and H.C. was held last evening, Mr A. W. Mason presiding over a full attendance. Final arrangements were made in connection with the approaching sports meeting. ’ The following were appointed officials to control the American meeting on January 29:—Judges, H. F. Forster, J. J. Martin, A. S. Parker, A. Ingram, senr'., F. Truman, senr ; timekeepers, U. \V. Mason, C. 0. Hansen, W. Wareham, J. Harvey ; referee, C. Brown; supervisor, J. Pollock; starter, L. Houlahan; marksmen and track stewards, A. Rice, E. Esquiland; lap and bell steward, P. Fulton; megaphone steward,' P. Roberts; call stewards, F. Herbert, W. Han key. * , , Permission was granted the freezing Works to hold a 100yds amateur handicap at their picnic. The following new members were elected: Misses N. Eastwood, J. Haisman, H. Morse and N. Wilson; and Messrs R. Thomson, J. H. Walker, J. D. Burnett, AVm. Wilson, W. Findlav, L. Illingworth, J. Kennedy , and H. A. Kennedy.

OFF TO GISBORNE

AMERICAN ATHLETES LEAVE TO-DAY.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. The American atnlctes, Scholtz and Hahn, arrived from Auckland to-day. They were officially welcomed by the New Zealand Council. Both expresseel eagerness for the exchange of ideas regarding points in running and said that they were anxious to teach young athletes. They had been favorably impressed witli .the New Zealand grass tracks. They leave for Gisborne to-morrow. —P.A. .
