AUSTRALIA’S FUTURE
IMPRESSIONS OF LONDON JOURNALIST.
FAILURE OF STATE ENTERPRISES.
COLORED LABOR WILL BE ,
NECESSARY,
LONDON, Doc. 27
Sir William Daniels, uniting in the “Sunday Times” his impressions of the Empire Press tour, says: Politically, Australia offered the most interesting feature. The delegates were able to study ail experiment from which the people of the United Kingdom may derive profitable guidance should Labor become an effective power. He comments: “Mr. Bruce is head of a Conservative Federal Government, while five out of the six States are dominated by Labor.” Sir W. Davies commends the steady development of ihe Commonwealth on Labor iines, instancing Arbitration Boards, and so forth. He then promeeds: “Wherever the State trades in Australia and elsewhere the story is one of incredible waste and extravagance.” 'He prqphesises that Australia must inevitably suffer in the process of growth. It is impossible to resist the conclusion that the Labor party at present is the chief impediment to immigration. Regarding a White Australia, Sir W. Davies exi presses the opinion that it is a magnificent ideal, but Australians must sooner or later face the necessity of admitting a certain proportion of indentured colored' labor.”—A. and N.Z.C.A.
