Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable from their London house under date January 30: "Tallow. —1290 casks offered; 900 sold. Since our last report prices are unchanged to Gd lower. The decline in prices is chiefly on inferior qualities.”

Cheese: 126/- to 130/- per cwt., market steady. New Zealand frozen meat: Market dull, little demand, quotations unchanged. (last quotations 26/1/23) lamb 12d per lb ; mutton wether and maiden ewe, light 91-d per lb, heavy SJd per lb; ewe, light 7Jd per lb, heavy 7-Jd per lb ; beef, ox, hinds 4i}-d per lb, fores 4/d per lb; cow, binds 4-|d per lb, fores 3-|d per lb. TIMARU WOOL SALES. BIDDING WEAKER. THAN AT OPENING SALE. TIMARU, Feb. 5. The second wool sale of the 1922-23 series was held to-day, ll when 12,219 bales were offered. An excellent attendance of buyers’ representatives Were present . from Home, America, the Continent, and the Dominion mills. The quality of the wool taken all round was excellent, the bulk being light in grease as a result of the comparatively cool weather during the last few months. Bidding was weaker than at the opening sale. Prices for medium halfbred and threequarterbred and piece wool showed a slight decrease. Overseas representatives were not keen bidders, the Dominion representatives being the keenest buyers. The range of prices was as follows;
