Sir Douglas .Haig reports : —. There was severe- fighting to-day from Meteren to Wytschaete. The enemy renewed his. attacks in strength at dawn in the neighborhood of Wytschaete and Spanbrookmolen and, supported by a heavy bombardment, approached our positions under cover of a mist and, after a prolonged struggle, gained both localities. , , ... . The enemy also obtained a footing at Meteren,'where fighting continues. The enemy this .morning delivered a strong local attack on our positions opposite Boyelles. southward of Arras, where the fighting continues. Hostile artillery is more active southward of Albert and in the neighborhood of- La Bassee Canal. _ Our artillery dispersed infantry m the locality near Locon. _ Mutual artillerying has me: eased at Passchendaele. The weather was unsuitably tor aviation yesterday, only permitting low altitude flights. . We .dropped over four cons ot bombs on different targets and secured a direct hit with a heavy bomb on a large infantry column. No' German aircraft were encountered. One of our machines i® missing.
