One remit ot the rapidly growing importance of the meat export trade in New Zealand is an announcement that the Armour Meat Packing Conipanv of Chicago is beginning operations in the Dominion, with headquarters at Christchurch. . An indication of the intentions of the company was given in a statement made at Christchurch last week •’ by Air. N. W'. Kingdom general manager of Armour and Co., Ltd. (Australasia) In an interview. Mr. Kingdon denied that the Armour Company is a meat trust. "We are here to do business in the same way as otner firms,” he said. "We have got nothing to hide. We are coming right out into the open, and putting ah our card* on the table." A further reference. to a suggestion that had been made to the effect, that die company was a trust caused Mr. Kingdom to remark: "You've got State-owned railways and many other meat companies', some of which are co-opera-tive. some have anti-trust legislation, so we couldn’t have everything our own way. even if we wanted to.
