A SERIOUS CHARGE.
DAIRYMAN ACCUSED OF STEALING A COW. A dairyman named Archibald Yardley appeared before Mr R. S. Floranco,, S.M., yesterday on a charge of having on November 20, at Gisborne, stolen one cow, valued at £0 10s, the property of George H. Lysnar. Mr A. Trevor Coleman appeared for accused. Detective McLeod applied for a remand to Saturday next, so that further inquiries might be made. Mr Coleman said that ho had no objection to a remand, but would ask that the case should be put through in time for the Supremo Court on Monday next. Defective McLeod said that, on present prospects there was no great likelihood of the case being ready for the Supremo Court. Mr Coleman said that the suggestion apparently was that there were probably more cases to be brought. As far as the present case was concerned, it was a simple one, and would not require much time. It was thus hardly fair that accused should be kept waiting for perhaps six months. Detective McLeod remarked that it might not be a Supremo Court matter at all. . , , His Worship granted the remand, remarking that he felt sure that the police would do all possible to facilitate the ease. . „ rA Bail was allowed, accused in £SO afid two sureties of £25 each. Ihe bail was forthcoming.
