THE GISBORNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

LAST MEETING OF THE YEAR

MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS TO BE HELD ON APRIL 28.

The Gisborne School Committee met last evening in the school at 8 o’clock. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education -notifying the committee of the appointment of Mr Rigby and Mrs Barlow to the staff, and also that the annual meeting of householders is to be; held on Monday, April 28 at 8 o'clock. A letter was received from Dr. Chesson, District Health Officer, in reply to a request from the committee that he should analyse the water taken from the bath he stated emphatically that there was no chance of the spread of skin disease from child to child through the medium of bath water. It could be spread, however, by the use of dirty towels.

The secretary of the Education Board wrote stating that the pedestals for the new conveniences at the school will arrive shortly. The committee decided to close the school for a week as soon as the contractor is ready to proceed with the work, and the secretary was instructed to notify the Board.

Reports were received from the Headmaster, the Finance Committee, and the Visiting Committee. The Headmaster reported that it would be necessary to postpone the anf nuai swimming sports of the school till the summer ,a,s the bath lias had to be closed on account of shortage of water. A sub-committee consisting of the Chairman and the secretary was appointed to confer with the Headmaster and prepare the Committee’s report to the annual meeting of householders.

This being the final meeting of the year, votes of thanks were passed to the Rev. L. D. Thomas for his services during the year as chairman, and to the Headmaster, Mr F. J. Rowley, for the assistance he has given the Committee at its meetings.
