MATTERS TAKING DEFINITE SHAPE.
MB BARRY CONEY, APPOINTED MUSICAL JUDGE.
A very enthusiastic meeting of the -committee of the Gisborne Competitions Society was held last evening in the Chess Room of the Public Library.
, A large amount of preliminary busily ness was transacted, and matters are beginning to take definite shape. There were present: Messrs E. H. Mann (in the chair), L. T. Burnard, C. •G. Bloove, J. Chrisp, C. Y. Harre, P. G. Andrew, G. Smith, J. C. E. /Kissling, M. G. C. Pasco, M. L. Fos"ter, .J. M. Samson, R. Cole. J. H. Bujl, W. Hamilton Irvine and the secretary (Mr F. It. Ball). An apology was received from Mr F. J. Rowley for non attendance. The appointment of Mr Barry Coney as musical judge and Mrs McAndrew a.s official pianist, both of Auckland, was confirmed. The matter of arranging for an elocution judge was left in the hands of the. chairman and secretary. The question of prizes for the ■different items was discussed at some length, and a sub-coin mi ft ee, consisting of Messrs M. G. C. Pasco, LI. Ethcrington, M. Foster. J. M. Samson • and the president and secretary was appointed to formulate a scheme to he submitted at the next meeting. An alteration was made in tlie elocutionary section, it being unanimously resolved to make the readings at sight class, under 1G and open. It is hoped to have the list of items in the different sections published at an curb- date, so that intending competitors may have ample time to study their particular numbers. The next meeting of the committee was fixed for Friday, iStli inst.
