ROWING.

GISBORNE CLUB. President’s Fours.—Two further races for trophies presented by Mr. W. F. Cedenvall were rowed on Saturday evening. The first race was between Hamilton (str), Jeffries, Gardner and Fraser and Miller (str), Alley, Bright and Muir. An even start was effected and Hamilton soon took the lead. At the Roebuck road bridge a length-and-a-half separated the crews. Miller here began to draw up and a great finish resulted, Hamilton lasting long enough to win by half a length. The next race was between Pycroft (str), Pollock, Oman and Maynard and Quigley (str), Perry, Evans and Sweet. Pycroft took the lead at the start, and opposite the Hospital had half a length to the good. Quigley here spurted and both crews went through the Roebuck road bridge even. Quigley then assumed a slight lead, but at the footbridge Pycroft had drawn level and gradually drew ahead, eventually winning by a length. The competition will be continued to-night. Licensed Victuallers’ Association Shield.—The following crews will represent the club in the above competition, which commences on March 28th :—Seniors : C. Somervell (str), H. Tocker (3), P. McConville (2), and R. V. Gully (bow): juniors: A. L. Winter (str), C. R. Moore (3), A. G. Gerrard (2) and F. Everiss (bow) : ten stone: I. j. Quigley (str), F. T. Port (3), H. Alley (2), and R. Pycroft (bow) —this crew has been challenged bv N. de Lautour (str), C. Perry (3), E.‘ Traill (2) and R. I. Scott (bow) ; youths: R. Miller (str), G. Pollock (3), Jas. Winter (2) and M. Oman (bow) —this crew has been challenged by P. Fromm (str), R. Parsons (3). L. Bright (2) and J. Melville (bow). Colley and Co’s Shield.—The following will represent the club in this competition, which will also be rowed on the 28th inst:—Seniors :P. H. Hamilton (str) and C. R. Moore (bow); juniors: A. G. Gerrard (str) and H. Alley (bow) ; ten stone: N. de Lautour (str) and R. Pycroft (bow); youths : R. Miller (str) and Jas Winter (bow).

POVERTY BAY CLUB

President’s Fours.—On Saturday evening a couple of races in the President’s Fours competition were rowed off. C. Hansen beat C. Clark. Clark had the misfortune to break a footboard strap and the race was re-rowed, but Hansen won easily. F. W. Nicholas beat V. Somervell by two lengths. The final will be rowed this evening between Hansen and Nicholas.
