A COMING SLANDER ACTION. [PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, August 15. The advance stage of a slander action was mentioned before Mr Justice Sim at a Chamber sitting to-day. The parties are Charles Arthur Whitmore Morickton, of Pahiki, near Otaki, grazier and dealer in live stock, plaintiff, and Byron Brown, of Otaki, storekeeper, defendant. The claim is for £1250 damages, in five causes of action, each asking £2so' for alleged slander/ relating to plaintiffs financial position. Mr Blair, for the defendant, moved for discovery and interrogatories, and secured a general order. Mr Morrison, for plaintiff, applied for interrogatories to be answered, to which Mr Blair consented. The action will come on for hearing at Palmerston North during the ensuing sittings of the Supreme Court. FIRE BRIGADES’ CONFERENCE. AUCKLAND, August 15. The United Fire Brigades’ Association’s Conference for next year is to take place at Rotorua. This decision is the result of a vote which was counted to-day.
