A DISTRESSING FATALITY.

WOMAN’S TRAGIC DEATH.

SUPPOSED EFFECT OF TAKING LYSOL

A most distressing fatality occurred yesterday, when Agnes Christie, a married woman, died in the hospital, presumably as the result of taking lysol in mistake for brandy. It appears that Mrs. Christie resided with Mr. Robert Fisken, her brother, in Lytton Road, and yesterday morning she was found to have taken lysol, and was.removed to' the hospital, where she died' last evening between 7 and 8 o’clock. . . '

Mrs. Fiskeni, her sister-in-law, informed the police that she: saw the reoeased in bed about 10.25 a.m. About five minutes later she r _ain saw her, and noticed she had a very flushed face and was looking extremely ill. She asked lien -what was the matter, and Mrs Christie re-died that she had taken some brandy. Mrs. Fisken smelt a strong odour of lysol in the room, and immediately send for Dr Scott, who on arrival ordered the woman to- be removed to the hospital. The deceased is said to have been meluncholv and morose for some few months past. One of her children was drowned in the Waimata river some time ago, and this is understood to have preyed on her mind and affected her considerably. A bottle containing lysol was found on the dresser ini the room where deceased was lying, and this was handed to the police. The bottle was nearly empty. An inquest null probably be held today
