THE NEW BOUNDARIES.

GISBORNE AND BAY OF PLENTY. EFFECT ON LOCAL OPTION. [special io Times.] WELLINGTON, August 15. The new electoral boundaries, in so far as tbe Gisborne and Bay of Plentj 7 districts are concerned, was the subject of an interview which your reporter had to-day with Mr D. J. Barry, chairman of the Gisborne Licensed Victuallers’ Association. Mr Barry, who is on his way hacK from Christchulrch, stated _ that his party were well satisfied with the result of the Commissioners’ deliberations. In one respect the change as regards the Gisborne electorate would be an excellent one. as the Wairoa river, being the boundary instead of Petane, would shut off that large area, which it has always been held should belong to the Napier end. Presuming, however, that No-license were carried in Gisborne, the new boundary would have the effect of making the Tynron township a “dry” district, while just across the river would be a licensed area. The position thus would be somewhat anomalous. Mr Barry considers that the cutting out of Rotorua from the Bay of Plenty electorate, and' the probable substitution of Opotiki as the “capital,” will suit the Gisborne end of the electorate very much better. Hitherto, he pointed out, very considerable inconvenience and delay have been caused through having Rotorua as the headquarters in licensing matters for such places as Te Karaka, Ormond, Whatatutu and the Coast, and he'was sure that this will be minimised to f a considerable degree by having Opotiki as the centre, only a very little more than a comfortable day’s journey from Gisborne.
