WORRIED OVER MONEY MATTERS A WELLINGTONIAN’S SUICIDE. LFEB PRESS ASSOCIATION^ WELLINGTON, August 13. William Johnson, a married man, and a very old resident of Wellington, and well known in building circles, was found dead in bed yesterday. He rented a room at No. 7 Hopper Street, from Mr. Ludwig Koch, and his wife is visiting England at present. He had been in bad health lately, having suffered from gastritis, and it is stated that he had been worried over money matters. At 5.30 p.m. on Friday he telephoned to J. W. Evans, a painter, of Cuba Street, and said “Good-bye,” adding that he would not see him again. Yesterday morning, at 9.40, Mr. Evans and Mr. V. Jensen went to his room and found him in bed quite dead. A bottle, which had contained prussic acid, was lying beside the body. At the inquest to-day a verdict was returned of suicide while of unsound mind.
