Female spiders are much larger and more ferocious than the males, and generally devour their husbands. As an instance of the relative values of oxen and donkeys, a well-known farmer in Natal said his experience was in favor of donkeys. He stated that on his own farm 118 oxen dragged a 14ton boiler with difficulty over ground that it took only 88 donkeys to drag a 10-ton boiler easily. He fully believed that 60 donkeys would have clone the work.
