A meeting of general conference delegates from the Maori Councils will he held in the Parliamentary Buildings on Tuesday, August 29th. “Y mountain of pork” was the somewhat extravagant description given to a seemingly unconcerned and aged pig, by an auctioneer at the Matawhero stock sales yesterday. A despatch which appears in the Latest issue of the “Gazette” states that His Majesty the King has decided that the Royal Standard, which is the personal flag of the Sovereign, is not in future to be flown except when His Majesty is personally present. The Coronation picture will be shown with another entirely new series of pictures at His Majestv’s Theatre this evening. The . manner in which the social gatherings of the local Scottish Society have been attended since its inception, amply demonstrates that it is now well established. There was an oxcptionallv large attendance at Wootton’s Tearooms last evening when members were entertained at a conversazione. Dr. Porter presided, and a splendid programme of songs and recitations was submitted, items being contributed by Mrs ALan, -Miss Wilson-, and Messrs Nicholl and Alexander, and Messrs Gregg Bros .<rane a sword dance and highland fling and Mr McKenzie played the pipes. To give some idea of the sheep-worry-ing by dogs, from which Taranaki farmres have bad to suffer, it may be mentioned that one farmer has kept a tolly of the dogs that- he and his men had shot. The imported English stallion, "Coker’s Emperor,” which is advertised for sale bv Messrs C. B. do Lautour and Co., is a stamp of animal which should be in demand by breeders in this district. He is a full brother to "Coker Rosidor,” winner of the first prize and champion at the London Metropolitan Show. ‘‘Coker’s Emperor” holds a unique record in the show rings of the Dominion, having secured twelve first prizes and two seconds on the only occasions on which he entered for competition.
