TRAGEDY AT SEA.
TWO SAILORS WASHED OVERBOARD.
ONE DROWNED. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.J WELLINGTON, March 31. Captain A. Slaksen, of the Norwegian barque Glenshee, which put in at Wellington late last night, bound from Melbourne to Falmouth, reports that on the run across two of liis crew were washed overboard. One of them, a sailor named‘Mardelles, was drowned. Tiie accident happened on March loth, when the vessel was running past Bass Strait, in heavy weather. The two men were sent into the rigging, and while they were engaged there a tremendous sea struck the ship and washed both overboard. One fell over the lee side, and was able to grasp a rope thrown out by the captain. He was then hauled on boardfl Mardelles,. who fell on the other side of the barque, was never seen again. Lifebuoys were thrown overboard, but the sea was too heavy to enable the lifeboat to be launched.
