CORRESPONDENCE.

RE STRAY ANIMALS

[To the editor.j Sir, —With your permission, I wish to make a correction in your report of the accident which happened to Mr A. M, Lewis’ car last night. Your article says that Mr Lewis drove into a number of horses Avliich were grazing on the road near Ormond. That is not correct. These are the facts: While Mr Lewis A\ r as passing by the Road Board's office he met a boy driving two horses up the road to their paddock, the boy riding on a bicycle behind them. The trvo ihorses separated, one going on each side of the car, and a deep drain being alongside. The horse had either to tumble into the! drain or bump against- the car, which it did. Mr Lewis had stopped hie car to try and prevent a collision, but one happened. I AA'as present, and Mr Lewis asked me where the ranger Avas. I told him the ranger had no poAver to interfere with animals Avhen driven. He- replied' that they should be led at night. We Avere both of the same opinion. I write this to slioav that the horses were neither grazing nor being herded on the road. There Avere -seA-eral present and saw it all. —I am, etc., A. PARSONS, County Ranger.
