Mr W.tron, in a speech, deolared that the Socialiem adopted by the Labor party was not the programme of any cult of Socialistic thought. They claimed the right to adopt just so much Sooia'ism as th-y thought practicable, and a>ked the eiec'ors to' vote the amount of Socialism they, thought Lecessary. ' The party’s objective Was collective ownership of monopolies, and an oxtm-ion of industrial and economic functions of the States and municipality. Mr D.akin took an exaggerated view of the evils likely to follow the fhrpe-party system of G JV6rDmerl tMr Daakio’s programme was at present in a pfate qf transit, if it existed at all. Tho party wantod a clear statement of bis views on the question of nationalising monopolies and progressive land tax for bursting.up big' estates, Mr Reid had pronounced against the latter. If the electors gave the necessary majority the Labor party were prepared to take the responsibility in the matter.
