Boochy R. MaoDooald, a well-known gentleman rider, was most seriously hurt at the Geraldine Racing Club’s Spring Meeting to-day. He was riding in the Hunters’ Hurdles when his horse fell at the fourth hurdle. Ho was picked up unconscious, and hud not shown any signs of reoovory to-night.
Thames, last night. Mr Hugh Poland, chairman of the Obinemuri County Council, who is contesting tho Ohinemuri seat against Mr Moss, the prosont member, commenced his campaign by addroaiug meetings in the back districts. Ho met with a good reception, and was accorded votes of tbauks uud confidence. Mr Polaod is a strong supporter of tbe presont Government, and baa been aeceptod as the Government candidate.
Hokitika, last night. The Mayor roeoivod to day tho following wire from Mr G. S. Munro, Exsoutive Commissioner of the Christchurch Exhibition : “ Will bo only too pleased to supply you with all information required re Exhibition. Congratulate on Hokitika being tbe first part of tbe colony outside Christchurch to rnovo in the matter of tho Exhibition on its own initiative." The Kokatahi Dairy Factory being so far the only dairy factory in Westland, has made arrangements with looal merchants for sale at an increased price of the whole of tho stations’ output, It is expected to realise .£BOOO. New Plymouth, last night. ■ Tbe second trial of Roubin White, an old man charged with rape on a young girl aged fifteen yeatß, was concluded tonight, with a verdict of not guilty.

At a meeting of the City Council tonight the Mayor announced he would give £l5O of tho honorarium to subsidise tbe city bands to play in public parks. The Mayor made a lengthy reply to Dr Frengley’s annual report to the Health Department, with epeoial reference to condemned buildings, justifying the aotioa of the Counoil.
