GAOL BREAKING.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, Saturday.
Gaoler Cleary, of Addington gaol, on Thursday discovered an attempt to break gaol. Dennett, one of the man sentenced for tho recent Amberloy burglary, had been able to secret two cold ehisbels, which had been missed from the blacksmith’s shop. Cleary beard a suspicious tapping in the vicinity of tho tailors' workshop, where Dennett should have been working, but was not when Cleary went there. A soarch revoalod Denuftijin a tank under tho ficor, tho nails' or tho manhole cover buviog been drawn and the nail holes concealed by tailors’ clippings. Dennett had with him a lead-beaded mallet, a lamp, two missing chisels, and also two suits of clothes. Tho trousers of one suit wore those of another prisoner that had also been missing. The wall to be out through was two feet thick, but Dennett had cut only a few inches when caught,
