FATALITY AT KAITARATAHI
MAN FALLS FROM RAILWAY • BRIDGE. . 7
Shortly after eight on Saturday night a fatality by drowning occurred at Kai Sara ;* i tahi, William Summers, -aged 50, an- i > married.losing his lifa. From information/ ' to hand it appears that he left the hotel to! go home; he was employed at King’s ‘ sawmills ait clerical and other work, andy*’ resided near the mill. He was aceom- 15 panied by John Prebbles, who preceded i him in walking acrose the railway bridge. Prebbles heard - a splash, and on looking round found that Summers had disappeared from the bridge. Ee had evidently r stumbled and fallen through ths bridge, probably striking the woodwork as ha fell. The drop would ba about 65 feet. An inquest will be held at Kaitaratahi afe i 2 this afternoon. ’ - " ".f Summers was a native of London, and V had resided; in Gisborne for about 25 years. • { He.has a brother in London; but no rola-« tives in the colony. He was a man of abont 15 stone weight. Mr Summers was a man of excellent education, was well read on many subjects, and was a very entertaining companion.
