AUCKLAND DEFEATS HAWKE’S BAY.

Auckland, Saturday. The cricket match Hawke’s Bay v. Auckland was resumed at 11 o’clock. The ] Hawke’s Bay innings closed for 105 runs. I Hawke’s Bay being in a minority of 143 I runs, followed on. Following were the additional scores :—Hughes, c and b I Stemson, 7 ; Tuke, b Kailender, 3 ; Hall, b Stemson, 14 ; Torkington, not out, 0; extras, 4. Bowling analysis : Stemson seven for 60, Oliff none for 14, Hussey one for 16, Kailender two for 8, Smith none for 3.

Hall and Hughes resumed play. The last three wiekats produced only 13 runs. Hughes scored a single off Stemson and another off Kailender. Hail cut the same bowler to the boundary. In the next over Hughes returned one to Stemson. 98— B—B. Tuke followed, and brought up the century with two off Stemson. Kailender recorded a maiden over, and in his next clean bowlod Tuke. 101—9—3. Torkington was last man. Hall got Kailender to leg for 3, but the next over lost his wicket, Stemson clean bowling him for 14. The scores in tho second inniDgs were : —Hall 30, Howard 15, Lusk 18, Fenton 1, Cato 18, Sharp 1, Hallamore 1, Cotterill 6, Hughes 0, Torkington 14, Tuke not out 4; extras, 18. Total, 126. TO-DAY’S MATCH. HAWKE’S BAY Y. POVERTY BAY.

The annual representative cricket match between the above teams commences at the Taruheru ground at 11 o’clock this morning. There will be a big change in the personnel of the visiting team. • The captain, H. B. Lusk, went on with the boat last night to Napier, and his place will be taken by Leevers, who is accompanying the team. Sharp and Hallamore, will be found on the opposing side. Torkington will be missing, having remained behind at Auckland. The Gisborne men’s places will be filled by Johnston, Gibbons, and Beatson, who arrived from Napier on Saturday morning. The teams will be as follows :

Hawke’s Bay—Cotterill, Cato, Hughes, Tuke, Hall, Benton, Howard, Leevers, Johnston, Beatson, Gibbons. Gisborne—W. Gibson, Hallamore, H. Sharp, Hodge, McPherson, J. Gibson, Charles, Raymond, M. Sheridan, HodgkinsoQ, Lasker; emergency, Sedoo.
