THE WORK OF PRISONERS. [Special to Times.] Wellington, last night. Tho Minister for Justice is satisfied that tho experiments mado in employing good conduct prisoners to plant barren areas in Rotorua district has been a success. The prisoners, 24 in number, have planted some thousands of trees undor tho direction of tho Chief Forester (Mr Matthews). Their behaviour has been satisfactory. Tho Minister intends to visit the district next week for tho purpose of inspecting tho work done. It is probable that the system of employing prisoners at planting will be applied to some other parts of the colony.
