(To the Editor of the Times ) Sir,— Re Waerenga-a-hika School Committee’s application to the Board of Education for a certificated mistress, I may state that I am absolutely in the dark as to the reason, though I perfectly understand the motive. Mrs McClure has a certificate, and has taught in this school for the last thirteen years with the greatest success, and has never had anything hut first-class reports from the Inspector. If men elected for the responsible duties of upholding local educational matters in a district lend themselves to petty spite and local jealousies, then the sooner such bodies as local school committees are done away the better it will bo for the cause of true education among us.—l am, etc.,
