BEEF VALUES FIRM AT WESTFIELD

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 6. Beef was penned in less than average numbers at the Westfield fat stock sale, but there was a ready demand and values lifted by 2s per 1001 b. on last week's sale. Sheep numbers were also down and with the consequent keener inquiry values showed an advancement. Lamb values were firm for an average yarding. A good yarding of calves met with a very strong sale, values generally showing a further improvement. Pork prices, too. were firmer in face of a very short entry, but the quality among store pigs was somewhat inferior and Ihey were hard to quit. Cattle. —Extra choice ox to £3 10s per 1001 b; choice and prime. £3 6s to £3 9s: ordinary ox. £3 to £3 ss: extra prime young cow and heifer to £3 7s: choice and prime, £3 3s to £3 Gs: ordinary cow beef, £2 17s to £3 2s: extra heavy prime steers, £27 to £2B 17s fid: heavy prime steers, £25 10s to £2G 17s fid: medium prime steers, £23 to £25 7s Cd: light prime steers, £2O to £22 17s 6d: small and unfinished steers, £IG to £l9 7s Gd: extra heavy prime cow and heifer, £l9 to £2l; heavy prime cow, £l6 to £l9; medium prime cow, £l3 to £ls 17s 6d; light prime cow. £ll to £l2 17s 6d: small and unfinished cow, £G 10s to £lO 17s fid. Pigs.—Choppers, £6 to £9: heavy prime baconers, £7 15s to £8 4s: light, £6 10s to £7: heavy porkers. £5 15s to £6 ss: medium, £5 to £5 10s: light, £4 5s to £4 15s: small and unfinished, £3 12s to £4; stores to £3 ss; weaners, £2 15s.
