HASTINGS RECORD COLLECTION OF RATES

HASTINGS. March 24.

What is believed to be a record in municipal rate collecting is claimed by the Hastings Borough Council. The treasurer, Mr. H. G. Jones, eported to the council last evening :hat at the beginning of this month 93.9 per cent of the current year's rates had » been collected and the balance of arrears from all previous years had been paid. This means that the only ariears in rates are those for the current year, representing 1.1 per cent.
