BRITAIN’S GRACIOUS MANNER OF DEPARTURE FROM INDIA

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. March 23. “Nothing became the British more than the manner in which they left India,” said Mr. F. R. Moraes, of the editorial staff of The Times of India, Bombay, in an interview in Wellington. Mr. Moraes is on a “busman’s holiday” in New Zealand conferring with leaders of political thought and meeting as many New Zealanders in their homes as possible. “The retirement of the British was accomplished with grace and dignity,” said Mr. Moraes. “and it left behind an enormous store of goodwill.” Mr, Moraes. who is accompanied by his wife and young son, will leave on Saturday for Rotorua, where they will spend a few days before returning to India. This week Mr. Moraes interviewed Messrs. S. G. Holland and P. Fraser and he expects to see the Minister of External Affairs. Mr. F. W. Doidge, before leaving for Wellington.
