SOME DISAPPOINTING FEATURES IN OTHERWISE SUCCESSFUL AUTUMN SHOW

Trade exhibits occupied only a small section of the area set aside for them. Those that did take up tnelr stands attracted a good deal of attention. Each had something novel to show the public.

Children were somewhat disappointed with the line-up of sideshows. They were remarkably few. There were three other fixtures in the North Island on Saturday which could have attracted members of the sideshowmen’s guild, but that has occurred before and Gisborne has not been neglected. An opinion was expressed that the decision of the association last year to throw the ground open to all licensees may have had some bearing on the decision of guild members to side-step Gisborne in the autumn. - Interest in Ring Events

While the crowd appeared a little thinner on the grounds after lunch than was the case last year, wide interest was shown in the ring events. Other features of the Show had their share of patronage during the day and there was a wide variety of exhibits to interest all sections of the public. The limerick competition aroused a! good deal of enthusiasm among the 1 younger members of the public. In all, 102 entries were received in that contest, and the decision was made in favour of John Allen. 6 Albert Street, and Stephen Dobson. 70 Harris Street, who divided the prize-money. Despite the fact that gate takings for the Gisborne Autumn Show were only about £4O less than last year, indicating that the P.B. Agricultural and Pasto-ral Association continues to have the support of the public, there were some disappointing features from the point of view of the executive and patrons alike.
