49 Saved From Sea Alter Airliner's Plunge
(N.Z, P. A.—Reuter —Copyright.) (10 a.hi.) LONDON, Aug. 15. Forty-nine people of the total of 58 aboard an American Skymaster which crashed in the sea off Galway early today, have been rescued. The British trawler Stalberg arrived at Galway with 49 survivors and two bodies.
The dead include an Italian* girl and an American, who is said to have been the assistant radio operator
An Italian girl has been taken to hospital with severe chest injuries. The Irish steamer Lanahorne landed five bodies at _ Galway tonight. Two people are missing. Eight persons were drowned and the ninth was killed by wreckage. Among the survivors on the Stalberg was the American flier, Miss Ruth Nichols. , . , . , , , The Skymaster, which belonged to Transocean Air Lines, had overshot Shannon airport on its way from Rome. Most of the passengers were Italian migrants on their way to Venezuela. , , The crash occurred 30 miles west of Aran Isles, and the Skymaster was about 12 minutes out of Shannon when it crashed.
