AMENDMENTS TO PROVISIONAL TOWN PLANNING SCHEME

At & meeting of the town-plan-ning committee of the Gisborne Borough Council held recently, a number of preliminary objections to the provisional town-planning scheme were discussed at considerable length,

A report of the meeting over the signature of the chairman. Dr. A. L. Singer, was adopted at last night's meeting of the council. The report stated that upon examination of the proposed town plan it was seen that these objections were well founded and would involve considerable, hardship on many property owners if the provisional scheme was adopted. “No doubt further objections will be received before the scheme is finally approved,” continued the report. In the meantime, a ntimber of amendments to the town planning scheme were recommended. These included the zoning of three areas near the town as general commercial, service industrial and residential. Sixteen proposals contained in the original provisional scheme are recommended to be eliminated.

The amendments to the plan recommended by the committee were: The area in Gladstone road between Cobden street and Roebuck road, with two and a-half chains of Palmerston road and bounded on the south-western side by Childers road and a strip four chains wide on the north-eastern side of - Childers road from Cobden street to Derby street to be zoned as general commercial.

The area bounded by Grey street, Childers road and the Waikana,e Creek, with the exception of the portion known as Alfred Cox Park, to be a service industrial area-

The area bounded by Derby street, Grey street and the Alfred Cox Park to be residential.
