15TH CENTURY QUEEN TO BE DECLARED SAINT
(10 a.m.) VATICAN CITY. Dee. 20. Blessed Joan of Valois, the fifteenth century Queen of France, will be declared a saint in 1950 Holy Year —as a result of a decree read be* fore the Pope approving of the miracles wrought by her intercession. Before the Catholic Church venerates a person as a saint at least four miracles must be approved in his or her case. The final decree will be granted in the case of Blessed Joan in Saint Peter's Basilica during 1950. Joan of Valois was repudiated by her husband, King Louis XII of France, and is reported to have founded the order of the Sisters of the Annunciation in 1500. The decree was also read approving' the miracles for beatification—the preliminary stage of canonisation of Venerable Anna Maria Jabouret who founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Cluny in France in the last century.
