DISRUPTION OF AIR SERVICES WIDESPREAD OWING TO WEATHER
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. Dec. 21. Fog and bad weather conditions generally caused disruptions to air services yesterday. The Nelson air station was not used all day, traffic being diverted to Blenheim and passengers travelling from there to Nelson by service car. Paraparaumu was closed for a short time during the afternoon but all trips were ultimately completed.
The West Coast airport was completely unusable. The head office of the National Airways Corporation stated that Whenuapai was out of use between 9.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. This was a major disruption to the service. Poor weather conditions to the north and south of Gisborne yesterday resulted in the late arrival of aircraft at Darton Field during the afternoon. However, all trips were completed during the day. the last aircraft landing at Gisborne at 7.30 p.m.. one and a half hours late. The machine from Gisborne for Napier. Palmerston North and Wellington left on time this morning.
