HOPES OF OPENING TE ANAU ROAD FOR HOLIDAY PERIOD
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Dec 21. Flood waters still covered the road on the Te Anau side of the Mararoa bridge yesterday Until they recede the extent of the damage cannot be ascertained.
It is hoped to have the road open by Christmas Eve, but this will depend on the weather, which is still unsettled. If the road is still closed at Christmas many people who planned to spend a holiday in the Te Anau district will be disappointed. The secretary of the Automobile Association, Southland, Mr. E. J. Barron, said today he had received many inquiries from the north concerning the condition of the road to Te Anau.
