(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 20. A national agreement between the New Zealand Tramway Employees Union and the employers is expected to be reached early in the new year, broadly on the basis of the existing conditions. . “The Christmas period is likely to pass without hitches,” said Mr. E A. Whitlow, secretary of the Auckland branch of the union and national vicepresident, today. Since the deadlock reached in the conciliation discussions in Wellington last week, the special difficulty over the rostering in Auckland has been ironed out. . “It is fairly plain sailing in Auckland now and there are no rocks ahead until the next meeting to discuss the national award," Mr. Whitlow added. “In the meantime the status quo prevails and the ballot decision of the tramwaymen to apply for deregistration of the union remains a mandate to the nationffi assessors.
