NO PROSPECTS OF EARLY SETTLEMENT OF HUNTLY STRIKE

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 31. No early settlement is expected of the strike which has held the MacDonald, Glen Afton and Pukemiro coal mines at Huntly idle for more than three weeks. A spokesman of the combined strike committees said work would not be resumed today. It was reported in Huntly that further representations had been made on behalf of the men on strike. It was stated that these were similar to the earlier representations and that the authorities in Wellington had replied that they saw no reason to deviate from their previously-stated principle of having the dispute settled along the constitutional lines and that the machinery existing in the Waikato local disputes committee should be used.
