HUGE MICROSCOPE

A seven-foot high electron microscope, so big that three people can sit around it and view images magnified 100,000 times on an inner screen, is on the Corinthic in Auckland and due for discharge in Wellington this week. The instrument is a 50kv electronic one and will be set up in the national physical laboratory at Lower Hutt. It is the only one in New Zealand. Thirtytwo similar ones are giving service in Britain. The Americans, and more recently the Dutch, have perfected similar electron microscopes.
