CIVIL RIGHTS OF PUBLIC SERVANTS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 31.

The principle of protecting the civil rights and political liberties of public servants was reaffirmed in a remit adopted at the annual conference of the Public Service Association which lias been concluded. No public servant should be discriminated against without a public trial in which disloyal, illegal or subversive actions against the Crown were proved, the resolution stated. The Combined State Services’ Organisation conference in Wellington recently passed a resolution stating that it deplored and would oppose any procedure whereby the beliefs of associations or the actions of public servants were made the subject of secret reports, unsubstantiated charges or charges which were not based on the laws of the country.
