AORANGI SETS NEW STANDARD IN TRANS-PACIFIC TRAVEL

The first regular post-war passenger service between Australia, New Zealand and Canada was instituted vesterdav when the Aorangi sailed down Sydnev harbour en route to Auckland. She will be the only passenger vessel operating across the Pacific.

Thoroughly reconditioned at Sydney since she finished her service to the Empire as a troopship, a mothership for tugs in tnc Normandy invasion, and a member of the fleet train of the British Pacific fleet, the Aorangi is now one of the best appointed vessels to visit New Zealand. She will carry 486 passengers, 212 of these being accommodated in first class quarters; 170 in cabin class, and 104 in third class cabins. Tastefully decorated; fbe public rooms include lounges, smoking rooms, and a library well-stocked with the latest reading material. An up to date barber s shop which caters for men and women, a well-stocked shop, and a children's nursery and laundry are other amenities provided in the first and cabin classes.

It is felt by the Union Steam Ship Company, that with the reduced passenger capacity, the spacious public rooms and decks and the many other amenities, the Aorangi will provide all that is desired by the travelling public in the Pacific area.

When the Aorangi’s white hull with a green band with red and black funnels appears over the New Zealand horizon next wpek, she will symbolise the beginning of a new span m transpacific travel.
