Trial Matches For N.Z. Cricket Team

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 23. Mr. J. H. Phillips, Wellington, has been appointed manager of the New Zealand cricket team to tour England next year. This was announced at the half yearly meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council last evening. The chairman of the management committee said that several trial matches would be played in the coming season to help in the selection of the New Zealand team for England. In addition to the Plunket Shield games, the following fixtures had been arranged: Town v. Country in the main centres to be played before Christmas. A match at Hamilton or Auckland between possibles and probables of the Auckland Minor Associations and a similar match at Wellington. North Island v. North Island Minor Associations at Wellington on February 5, 7 and 8, and a similar game at Christchurch for the South Island. South Island Minor Association to play a trial match at New Year. New Zealand v. the Rest at Christchurch on February 10, 11 and 12.
