CHINESE BANDIT RAIDS NEAR HONG KONG
(11 a.m.) HONG KONG, July 20. Military sources said tonight that no alarm need be felt in Hong Kong territory near the border of the colonyThey stressed that the trouble was not associated with disorders elsewhere in South-East Asia, particularly Malaya. Bandits have destroyed Chinese Customs posts, razed villages and attacked national troops but the military sources said that the action was mainly economic, not political. The bandits included many who normally lived on the smuggling trade which had been seriously affected recently through more stringent Government control and had inspired retaliation.
