PRICE CONTROL
PEACETIME BASIS STATIONERS' OPPOSITION (P.A.) ROTORUA, Feb. 24. The establishment of price control on a permanent peacetime basis was opnosed by delegates to the New Zealand Commercial Stationers’ Guild annual conference, which opened in Rotorua this morning. It was contended that price control could have only one effect—that if still hampering further free competition. “Although two years have now passed since the cessation of hostilities, traders are still subject to rigorous control in many directions.” said Mr. N. T. H. Byng, the president, in presenting the annual -report. “The recent dollar crisis has and will have an effect on our buying on the overseas market. Other Government controls have now passed from the emergency regulations into peacetime legislation which will have a far-reach-ing effect on members and will require constant vigilance in order that the interests of members may be safeguarded. "Several of the clauses of the present bill are entirely contrary to British justice and commercial practice and can only still further curtail the activities of the business community.”
