OUTPUT NEAR RECORD
BRITISH SHIPBUILDING MANY FOR OVERSEAS (10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 26. British shipyards in 1947 launched 1,202,000 tons of shipping—a figure which has been exceeded only once previously in 1942 when Britain launched 1,284,000 tons, says Lloyd’s Register. The 1947 total represented 56.9 per cent, of the world’s output for the year. Overseas owners received 31.6 per cent, of the tonnage launched which is the highest proportion since 1930 when they had 44 per cent, of Britain’s output.
