FUEL ALLOCATION
CONTRACT CARRIER j HALF MONTH'S NEEDS | COUNCIL SHOWS CONCERN The fact that under recent regulations the oil-fuel ontrollcr had issued a permit representing less than half the monthly requirements of the council's cartage contractor was the subject of concern at yesterday’s meeting of the Cook Countv Council, which agreed to support the constable's for a supplementary permit. The letter advised the council that whereas the average consumption of "frol in recent months had been 2800 Mlons, used almost solely in work for he county council, the new permit was estricted to 1200 gallons. The new allocation would be exhausted in the first half of each month, the letter pointed out, and the contractors would face considerable difficulty in handling the council’s work under this restriction. Prior to the introduction of the latest regulations, the contractor’s supply of octroi had been cut to 2200 gallons, but alter representations had been made ■lie controller had issued a supplementary permit for 400 gallons per month, effective up to April next, This appeared to recognise the merits of the contractor's claim, based on the actual mileage run by his four trucks. The chairman, Mr. E, H. Baker, in moving that the contractor’s application he supported, commented that the council would be faced with a very difficult situation if its transport contractor’s olant was hung up for lack of petrol.
