IMPROVING EMBROLITA WILL EXTEND SILVER TREASURE?

EGMONT CONCLUDING DAY

(Herald Special Service.) JltE concluding day of the Egmont Racing Chib’s sumniel- meeting at JTawera tomorrow will see similar fields io those that competed last week-end, although in the Okaiawa Hurdles, which replaces the highweight, a few “fresh” horses arc listed.

OKAIAWA HURDLES Black Prince is the form hurdler engaged, but at 11.4 will be severely tested. Political Boy over hurdles is past his best, while Master Guard, on his recent win at Wanganui has just claims, but the improved form of Valued is not being overlooked as prior to his highweight win seven days ago has run second and third over the battens. On Time has recent place form and ran a fair race the other day in. the Woodville Highweight. Dark Morning is not recommended, but Glenfayle, fourth in the highweight the first day, ran a fourth at Thames last spring and claims as his sire Baffles, who sired the winner of the last National, so that this lightweight might upset calculations. NORMANBY TRIAL HOP. The basis of the summing-up of this event will be on the showings in the two Trial races the first day. although only three of the eight placegetters figure now so 't looks as if Winsome Lad and Vincette may dispute favouritism. Secret Ruler on a second at Slratford early in January is another possibility, while Lord Manna, having his first run last week, was made favourite so must have been galloping pleasingly in his training before .hat. He lost a dozen lengths at the start. He was the medium of heavy betting so possibly with better luck this lime may make amends. MEREMERE HACK HOP. Gay Slipper on his first day’s showing will be selected as one of cue most dangerous, but the next on the list, Balintorc, will need to improve appreciably on his highweight form to have even a place chance. Aylesbury was not conspicuous the first day. while newcomers in Graeme's Joy and Gold Rock, on form this last month will be considered. Victory Dawn ran below expectations the other day. White Diamond is a newcomer from the first day, while Follow Suit, second at Woodville the preceding week, may do better this time. Stratliconan. commissioned the other day, has cost dearly since winning twice down at Reefton in the spring. Of (he others little helpful form is offering. *TONKS STAKES SILVER TREASURE, 9.2. is up lib for his win in tiro Fgmont Cup, but he won well over the furlong longer course than now. LOYAL BIAN, 7.8. has not been racing very prominently of late, but should (he "oing ho easier, as nrcdHod.

may do better. It can be seen that there is a big difference in weight from No. 1 to No. 2 in this race. EMBROLITA, 7.7, appears to be doing a little better each time stepped out since arriving from Queensland so on his second the first day must be included in a summing-up. TENOR ROYAL, 7.3. was fourth in the Cup, but hardly ran as prominently as expected. CRESSIDA, 7.2, is also in the sprint, but Restarted here would be an interesting competitor and one that a chance would have to be given, although she has not raced over middle distances previously. BAFFLES REX, 7.0, at Wanganui the second day ran third in the middledistance hack, coming from a long way back. The balance of the seven-stoners hardly appeal on what they have shown of late.

ELECTRIC HANDICAP Snowboy, 8.7, a winner on the first day, will not lack for support, but in some quarters was deemed a little lucky to beat War Admiral so that tha latter must have his supporters. Divided ran second the first day at Wanganui, which was prefaced by another second, but at this same meeting was nowhere on the second day. Curtana has failed a few times since winning at Riccarton in the spring, while the Auckland winner, Marias Ann, was behind Curtana (fourth), lasi

PEGGY O' (11/ 7.1, and FRANCIS MOND (2), 7.1 have a little form to back up their chances now. SHAFTESBURY HACK HCP. This is another event that will have to be run in divisions, but not, of course if there are sufficient withdraw, als. which is highly improbable. There is any amount of form offering by those handicapped over the 8.0 mark and perhaps it will be these only that will oe entertained when trying to sort the right ones out. CHAMPION HACK CUP Naprcdak appears right at the top of her form and needs to be to succeed here as 9.2 for a three-year-old filly is no easy task, but in her favour is her recent consistent good form. Battle Royal, third last to Maid of Snerwood and Naprcdak. has now an extra 31b. on his back. Third in her last start, which was prefaced by two successes, Golden Secret reads impressively and on a weight comparison should finish in front of Napredak. Silver Sam is another contestant with the right form, while Maid of Sherwood for her success last week-end has gone up 151 b . but in a 71b. higher scale of weight. This filly will be bracketed with Prince Rana, who when fancied last Saturday left it to his bracket to fulfil his obligation to his many monetary supporters; maybe he will do better this time. Faithful Knight is not without place prospects. Of those on the minimum, Borderer on his second at Matamata to Diatomic may do best

*WAIHOU HANDICAP This is the open sprint of the day, with FLOWERBURN, 9.2, the topweight. He galloped exceptionally well on Tuesday morning and is reported to have freshened up since Wellington. On Auckland summer form, GENERAL MENTEITH must be hard to beat with a track to his liking; in his last start and on the same track he was second to Angeline with 8.8. or lib .less than now, while ANGELINE is also engaged, but the weight is now in the former’s favour by 121 b. which sums up in favour of The General. So consistently is BONNY PAY racing that he cannot be passed over. TIGER TAN is having his first up for a few months: he has a weight that he has won with but the little fellow prefers easy going. GRAND TOURIST won at Rotorua, but has not been an easy one to keep tag on and. as his name suggests, he is at times a bit of a “passenger.” THEOPHILUS can gallop, but unsoundness sees him only at times caught on his right foot as it were. It appears hnrdi.y likely that the winner is "ontained in those lower on the weight list. HOT SPRING HANDICAP This event is headed by Gay Fault, also in the Memorial Handicap. No. 2 on the list is Super Vaals, a good galloper and who in his only start this season won over seven furlongs in convincing manner on January 31 at Auckland, beating the hot favourite Brockton. For that success he has risen only 61b, so reads like one that could be followedMiss Julienne has been second in her 'ast two efforts so is due for a win any day. Rescrvde for this event, Swanec would have her admirers, while Greekette won at Matamata. Perhaps a favourite will be Chatscourt, who last Saturday at Te Rapa outclassed his opponents in the sprint and also a mile is held to be his best distance. White Blaze has won this season and on her past eight furlongs has been her pet course Kindroon, the unreliable, may upset the applecart, but his supporters have lost confidence in him. Of the others. Jeep, Dongal, Lcn Rosa, Bonny March and Greek e!, ver rood best
