“USE OF POLICE” PRINTING DISPUTE PUBLIC SERVICE ROUSED (P.A.) _ WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. A resolution condemning "the action taken by the Government in using the police force as a means of suppressing Mte vent.lation of grievances by a secdon of the service" was carried without dissent at a meeting of the Wellington sectional committee of the Public Service Association.
The resolution followed consideration of a report on the recent dispute in the Government printing Office concerning salary ra-.es which resulted in a stopwork meeting on January 21.
The committee, in a statement issued today, states that the resolution also deplored “the use of a police officer as a channel of communication between the Government and the public servants concerned "
Ic was decided to congratulate the executive officers on the action taken and the attitude adopted in the matter. The general secretary reported that tiie Public Service regulations and the relevant Acts were being revised and that legislation would shortly be introduced to legalise tile proposed alterations.
It was decided that the executive committee should take all the necessary stops to safeguard the interests of public servants and that as full information as possible should be given to merrsb- rs.
Mr K Menzies the general treasurer of the association, was nominated as a service representative on the new Superannuation Board.
